Thank you's, BackerKit prep, and avatars
about 8 years ago – Thu, Mar 17, 2016 at 12:41:30 AM

Greetings, Sentinels!

The very first item on our agenda today is to say...

Thank you so much! You are the best backers ever!

We really can't tell you this enough. I hope you've enjoyed the experience as much as we have, and we can't wait to get this into your hands. The campaign may be over, but the excitement certainly isn't.

Here in the next week and a half or so, we'll be sending out the promised BackerKit for OblivAeon. With the BackerKit, you'll be able to upgrade your pledge, add items on, and input your shipping address. You'll be able to update your address through there, as well, if you find yourself moving in the future. That's also where you'll be able to let Christopher know what name you would like him to read out in his video (or opt out of having your name read at all, as some of you have requested). The final thing you'll be able to do is give Handelabra your information so that you can get your avatar for Sentinels of the Multiverse: The Video Game.

That brings us to our final point. As an OblivAeon backer, you are entitled to the exclusive Kickstarter Multiplayer Avatar for Sentinels of the Multiverse: The Video Game. In order to claim this reward, you must own the video game for Steam, iOS, Google Play or the Amazon Appstore. To deliver your avatar, we will need a piece of information from within your copy (or copies) of the game. You may claim the avatar once per platform, but the BackerKit is the ONLY way you can submit this ID. If you do not yet own the video game but want to claim the avatar, you must purchase the video game and follow the steps below before final submission. Once we have your info, it will be added to the game for a future update. When that update becomes available, the Kickstarter Multiplayer Avatar will show up in your list of available avatars.

Steps to claim:

  • Launch the game on your chosen platform.
  • Press “Online Multiplayer” (you will need to have an Internet connection).
  • Press on your player name in the upper right corner of the screen.
  • Your ID is shown under “ID FOR TECH SUPPORT.”
  • Press the COPY button, or copy the text from the box to the clipboard.
  • Paste the ID into the associated platform box (in the BackerKit question). It must be exactly correct, so please use copy & paste, not re-typing.
  • Repeat for each platform on which you own the game.

That's all there is to it. And, because it bears repeating many times over...

Thank you!

The end of the Multiverse!
about 8 years ago – Fri, Mar 11, 2016 at 07:08:54 PM

Hello, fine Sentinels!

Our "Counting Down to the end of OblivAeon!" live stream will go live on our Twitch channel at 11:30 AM Central Time! Come hang out with us while we watch the end of our biggest Kickstarter ever!

As part of it, we have a tall case of Misters Chomps hanging out in our office. Can you accurately guess how many Misters Chomps are in the case? Make your guesses to @GTGChristopher in the chat, and we'll put them up on screen. Just one guess per person. At 1:30 PM Central Time, we will reveal just how many Misters Chomps there are and a winner will be determined! We'll send the winner some pins, a now out-of-print "Play Power Draw" shirt (only certain sizes still available, but we'll get as close as possible), three different Sentinels of the Multiverse lanyards, and the top Mister Chomps from the case, all packed in a GTG tote bag!

So, come watch the end of the Kickstarter with us! We'll be answering questions, listening to Sentinels of the Multiverse music, talking excitedly, and drinking champagne at the end of the countdown. Who better to have at our party than all you Sentinels who made it possible?

See you on our Twitch channel in a little over an hour!

AMA on Reddit now! Art Live Stream in a few hours!
about 8 years ago – Wed, Mar 09, 2016 at 07:16:04 PM

I just posted an AMA (Ask Me Anything) at r/boardgames on Reddit, so come ask me questions!

Also, in 3 hours (at noon, Central time) Adam will be doing an art live stream on our Twitch channel! He's going to be drawing some Very Cool Things. I promise.

Sometime during that art stream, we will hit the 48 hour mark on the Kickstarter, and that's when things really start kicking! We're all eager to see what this campaign does in its last two days!

You are the best Sentinels!

70 hours to go!
about 8 years ago – Tue, Mar 08, 2016 at 10:48:52 PM

The Kickstarter just switched from counting down days to hours! That's how close we are to the end!

Before we get into stuff about Sentinels of the Multiverse: The Video Game, I want to clear up a question about the Complete Foil Oversized Villains Collection.

Any of the cards that can be found in the Oversized Villain Card Pack on our website will not have new art - Adam just redid all the arts for those cards in the last year. However, Adam WILL be doing unique art for all of the other villain character cards. Which means 10 new arts for Vengeance, 22 new arts for Villains of the Multiverse, AND 4 alternate arts for OblivAeon and 20 alternate arts for Scions. (Those numbers might seem twice as high as what you might expect - I'm counting two arts for each character card: front and back.) So! The foil villains will feature a TON of new/unique art! The foil oversized cards for OblivAeon and all of the Scions will be different art from the cards in Sentinels of the Multiverse: OblivAeon!!

Whew. I don't know about you, but I'm REALLY excited about all of that.

Now! Let's get digital! Here's Jeremy from Handelabra to talk about the video game:

What is Sentinels of the Multiverse: The Video Game?

Back in 2011, when Sentinels was just a simple card game with no expansions yet available, John and Jeremy from Handelabra Studio met the Greater than Games team at PAX Prime. Over the next 2 years, these 2 companies worked to find a way to bring the world of the Multiverse from the tabletop to the digital tabletop.

Conceived from the start as a completely faithful adaptation of the card game, Sentinels of the Multiverse: The Video Game aimed to replicate the theme, gameplay and overall feeling of the tabletop game. For those times that you can’t get everyone together around the table, but you still want to be a hero - The Video Game is there!

Where can you play?

Sentinels of the Multiverse: The Video Game is Available for PC/Mac (via Steam), iPad (via iTunes) and Android Tablets (via Google Play or The Amazon App Store). Every version can be played solo, where you control the whole team, but all versions also offer online multiplayer. And even better than that, Sentinels multiplayer is completely cross platform! Android, iPad and Steam players can all play with each other in the same game.

All versions of the game also feature the “Weekly One-Shot” every week. These are specific challenges set up by the Handelabra team. They are sometimes a particularly difficult challenge, while other times they may highlight a team up you might not have thought of. Whatever that week’s challenge is, everyone in the world will be playing the same one, and players are encouraged to share notes on what works and what doesn’t.

What is included?

Sentinels of the Multiverse: The Video Game mirrors the “Enhanced Edition” of the card game. 10 heroes, 4 villains and 4 environments offering more than 9000 unique match-ups.

But that’s not all! Since it’s release in late 2014, the Handelabra Games team has been working tirelessly to adapt all the existing expansion content from the card game. The first 7 expansions for the Video Game can be purchased in one package called “Season Pass 1” which currently includes the following:

  • Mini-Pack 1 (1 hero, 1 villain, 1 environment)
  • Rook City (2 heroes, 4 villains, 2 environments)
  • Infernal Relics (2 heroes, 4 villains, 2 environments)
  • Mini-Pack 2 (1 hero, 1 villain, 1 environment)
  • Shattered Timelines (2 heroes, 4 villains, 2 environments)

What’s up next?

In process right now is the next full expansion, Wrath of the Cosmos. Captain Cosmic and Sky-Scraper are getting ready to join the team to take on the likes of Infintor, Kaargra Warfang, Deadline and Progeny in the Dok Thorath Capital and the Enclave of the Endlings. After Wrath of the Cosmos, Season 1 will be finishing up with Mini-Pack 3 including Guise, Wager Master and Omnitron IV.

Wrath of the Cosmos is slated for release in the next couple of months, but starting tonight, you can see previews of this new content on #SentinelsLive, Handelabra’s weekly live stream on Twitch (7pm eastern). The Tuesday night broadcasts always make their way to YouTube within about a week, so if you miss one live, don’t worry! You can always get caught up after the fact.

What does the future hold after Season 1 is complete? Season 2 of course! But unfortunately you’ll have to wait till April to learn more about that.

What are you waiting for?

For those of you who have backed OblivAeon but don’t yet own the Video Game, remember that all backers get an exclusive multiplayer avatar in the video game, but you have to own the video game when backer surveys go out in order to claim it! More info on how to claim your avatar, and when it will be available in the game will be handled by BackerKit after the Kickstarter closes.

Now, let's look at a few other Kickstarters that have caught our eye here in the GTG HQ!

Overlords of Infamy

Have you ever wanted to play as an evil overlord and take over the world? Now's your chance! Overlords of Infamy lets 2 to 4 players sow discord and misery and ultimately vie for control of the entire planet!

(Also, you should check out the "Project Timeline" on the front page of their campaign. It's delightful.)

With two weeks left to go, Overlords of Infamy has already funded and is heading towards some exciting stretch goals! Go check them out!

Battle for Greyport

Slugfest Games has a great hit with Red Dragon Inn. Now, they've got a new game with a familiar theme! The Red Dragon Inn: Battle for Greyport is a cooperative deck-building game for 2 to 4 players. Adventurers? Cooperative play? Sounds great to me! Check it out here.

Girls' Heist Out

Comic books by author (and game designer) Rob Wieland? OK, I'm interested. Wait, they're about HEISTS?! I love heists. Seriously. This is the only campaign on this list not about games, and it definitely deserves to be here. Anything I'd say about Girls' Heist Out, the campaign will say better. Go take a look.

7th Sea: Second Edition

Last but certainly not least, a project that launched at the same time as Sentinels of the Multiverse: OblivAeon. Many of us here in the GTG HQ have enjoyed the 7th Sea roleplaying game, and seeing the second edition enjoying such a meteoric campaign has been fantastic. Great art, a well-run campaign, swashbuckling... what's not to like? They still have 5 days to go and are just $50k from breaking a million dollars. Let's get them over that amount!

---

See you all tomorrow morning for a quick update! Remember, tomorrow at 9 AM Central is my Reddit AMA at r/boardgames, and at noon, Adam will be doing a live art stream!

Let's all save the Multiverse together!

The Beginning of the End!
about 8 years ago – Mon, Mar 07, 2016 at 10:25:33 PM

Sentinels! Only a few days left!

We just weathered our last weekend for this campaign, and that weekend brought forth hundreds of new Sentinels! Welcome, one and all!

There’s a lot of stuff happening in these last few days. Let’s go over the schedule!

  • Today, I’ll be talking about the schedule for the week, the responses to the survey we posted on Friday, the Complete Foil Oversized Villain Collection, and the way we’ll be handling post-campaign info-gathering type things.
  • On Tuesday, I’ll post a short update about Sentinels of the Multiverse: The Video Game, and a couple other Kickstarter campaigns that deserve your attention.
  • Wednesday will be a busy day. At 9:00 AM Central time, I will be doing an AMA on Reddit at r/boardgames. “AMA” stands for “Ask Me Anything”, and I’ll be there answering questions about this Kickstarter campaign, Sentinels of the Multiverse, Greater Than Games, and whatever else you ask! Then, at noon, Adam will be doing another live art stream on the GTG Twitch channel. I’ll probably still be answering Reddit questions at the time, but I will also put at least a medium amount of my focus on the Twitch chat. Wednesday will also be the kickoff of the final 48 hours, so we’re all eager to see what the campaign does in those final hours!
  • On Thursday, I’ll post another short update, clarifying any questions that pop up between now and then. We’ll see what happens between now and then!
  • Friday is the end! Before noon on Friday, I will begin live streaming on our Twitch channel. I will be setting up my computer to stream the main area of the GTG HQ, so we’ll all be walking by the camera at various points as we all watch the last few hours of the campaign. We’ll also have the chat up in the office, so we’ll be able to answer questions and chat with all of you fine Sentinels! The stream will run through the end of the campaign - we’ll end the Multiverse together!

Quite the busy schedule!

Last Week’s Survey

We posted a survey about the Foil Villain Oversized Collection on Friday, and THOUSANDS of you responded! Thank you so much to all of you who filled out the survey for us. Your feedback was heard, loud and clear.

The majority of you have added the Foil Villain Oversized Collection to your pledge. However! The majority of you ALSO want us to get rid of that add-on and replace it with one that has ALL of the villain cards. Very well! Who are we to stand in the way of greatness?

Thus, we are thrilled to announce:

The Complete Foil Oversized Villain Collection

The Foil Villain Oversized Collection is dead! Long live the Complete Foil Oversized Villain Collection!

By popular demand, this pack has EVERY villain character card, including villains from the core game, every expansion, mini-expansion, variant, Vengeance, Villains of the Multiverse, AND OblivAeon! Also, all of the Scions from OblivAeon! So many villain cards!

This new pack is a $49 add-on. Why so expensive? Well, Oversized Villain cards are expensive to make, and with foil, they’re even more costly! That said, we were going to split the contents of this collection into two $29 sets, but due to your feedback, they are a single $49 set! So, if you already added $29 to your pledge, just add another $20 to upgrade to the Complete Foil Oversized Villain Collection. Also, if you are a backer at the “Entire Multiverse” or “Everything Ever-er” level, you will be getting the Complete Foil Oversized Villain Collection, further sweetening those pledge levels.

Because it will contain content from OblivAeon, it will ship alongside OblivAeon, so look forward to the Complete Foil Oversized Villain Collection early next year!

End of the Campaign Pledge Manager?

During this campaign, we’ve had to adjust things a few times in response to how many wonderful Sentinels there are out there. We’ve added two pledge levels, a ton of stretch goals, and changed our add-ons a couple times. Additionally, a lot of people have requested the ability to create group pledges and add multiple copies of pledge levels to their pledge. There’s not an easy way for us to do that in Kickstarter, but a pledge manager could make that possible.

Over the course of this campaign, we have been asked many times if we are going to use a pledge manager after it ends. Our answer has always been “no”, because we have never seen a pledge manager that appears to provide more value than its cost. However, last week, some people from BackerKit reached out to us and came up with a pricing plan that makes a lot more sense given our needs. As a result, we are happy to announce that we will be using BackerKit for this campaign! What are the consequences for you, fine backers?

We will not be sending out backer surveys. Instead, we will be sending you a link to log in to BackerKit once the campaign ends. It will import your pledge information and ask you all of the sorts of questions that would normally be on the survey. The first thing we’ll want you to give us is the name you want me to read in the video, as we want to get started on that ASAP.

Most importantly, BackerKit will be able to confirm things like “did you add enough to your pledge for an add-on”, and allow you to fix it if you didn’t. BackerKit will even let any backer add multiple copies of pledge levels! Especially given the scale and scope of this campaign, we believe that BackerKit will make a more seamless end to this campaign, both for us and for you.

This is an experiment for us, so we shall see how it goes! One way or another, we will make sure that everyone gets their rewards.

---

Stay tuned, Sentinels! We have a lot of big days ahead of us!
